Jo M. Orise

At the age of five, Jo Orise was inspired by her mother’s artistic talents. After her mother died that same year, Orise delved into the mysteries of art.

Later, encouraged by her step-aunt, she studied under the guidance of several professional artists from Maine and New Hampshire. Eventually, Orise earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Art from the University of Southern Maine. Afterward, she taught art from her Kennebunk, Maine, studio, then she opened Josoca Studios, where she worked for 10 years as a fine artist, freelance artist, and potter/sculptor. Orise later taught art, computer science, and animation in Maine and New Hampshire schools for 22 years.

In her travels, Orise often stops to capture a moment she may paint en plein air or in her studio. Her images often express a mood, which she feels is her primary focus. Her media include watercolor, acrylic, oil, pencil, and ink. Other interests include writing poetry and short stories, and she is presently working on a novel.

Many of Orise’s pieces are in private collections around the country and overseas.

Orise’s studio is in the mountains of New Hampshire. Viewing and purchase is either by appointment or via her web site or at local galleries and businesses listed on her site.
