Becky Bense

Rebecca S. Bense – Most folks know her as Becky and prior to COVID she was often found in the Newport NH Library Arts Studio( L.A.C.),organizing, teaching or just tidying up! She is a native New Hampshire watercolorist. She graduated from The University of New Hampshire (U.N.H.) with a bachelor of arts in anthropology and a minor in studio art. She has been teaching at The Newport Library Arts Center for 7 years. Her love of painting was first developed in highschool under the tutelage of Lee Gridley and Nancy Piper. She received a scholarship from GWAC in 1985 to help with books at U.N.H. and her focus there artistically was ceramics. After graduating she worked full -time jobs to pay the bills but continued to keep an artistic journal. She took adult education painting classes through The Concord High School and at The New Hampshire Institute of Art, and also community classes at the L.A.C.. In the past she has studied with Maragret Dwyer and Robert J. O’Brien. She currently studies weekly under Doris Rice, from Exeter, NH and as often as possible with Carol Douglas who works and lives in Maine. She has had several pieces juried into a regional art show through the L.A.C. and is currently teaching via ZOOM. She also is the creator of tags4peace. This is a not for profit business that repurposes cards into gift tags and donates 100 % of all the funds raised to help end domestic and sexual violence.
